Egypt’s Vision 2030 Strategy pays special attention to the repercussions of climate change by reinforcing a sustainable and resilient ecosystem that is able to withstand the threats of global warming.

Egypt seeks to preserve both development and the environment together through the rational use of resources in a way that preserves the rights of future generations in a more secure and adequate way. The country aims to achieve this by facing the effects of climate change, enhancing the resilience of ecosystems and the ability to face natural hazards and disasters, increasing reliance on renewable energy and adopting sustainable consumption and production patterns.

Climate change and water scarcity are among the most important challenges facing countries in the world, and despite these challenges, the Egyptian government had faith that this challenge might represent an opportunity to promote and integrate the green economy.

Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad announced the details of the national plan to adapt to climate changes and confront global warming, as part of the sustainable development strategy “Egypt Vision 2030,” pointing out that it includes protecting the Nile River and establishing dams in the northern delta, in cooperation with the Ministry of Irrigation. The ministry’s plan targets seeking to complete the integration between the three “Rio conventions” (climate change, desertification, and biodiversity), which supports the national plan, especially as Egypt deals with climate change from an environmental standpoint, not a development standpoint.

Within the framework of the 2030 plan, programs have been developed to reduce air pollution and stop the various sources of pollution. Facing climate change must be linked to water resources in the Nile Delta and coastal areas, as it was agreed with the Green Climate Fund to provide infrastructure in the Nile Delta.

Egypt began preparing to announce the lists of green development projects, and promote them with international financing bodies. Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad participated in announcing the launch of the “NWFE” Program for Financing and Investment in Climate Projects.
